New images from Ti West’s Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol feature Ian McKellen as Jacob Marley, alongside additional looks at Johnny Depp as Ebenezer Scrooge and Tramell Tillman as the Ghost of Christmas Present. Dread Central reports that the images were made available through Entertainment Weekly.
West, whose filmography includes the X trilogy, directed the adaptation from a screenplay by Nathaniel Halpern. The movie is based on Charles Dickens’ 1843 novella and follows Scrooge, a miserly businessman whose life is challenged after visits from the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. According to the report, the film is being presented as a “bold new twist” on the familiar story.
A recent trailer reportedly points toward a darker interpretation of Dickens’ tale. West told Entertainment Weekly that he wanted to explore the ghosts’ more unsettling qualities, saying he had not seen a movie version in which “the ghosts are a little bit spooky.”
In addition to McKellen, Depp, and Tillman, the cast includes Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, Arthur Conti, Ellie Bamber, Charlie Murphy, and Tramell Tillman.
Emma Watts produced Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol. David Reid, Adam Bohling, Stephen Deuters, Jason Forman, West, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, and Andrew Lary served as executive producers.
Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol is scheduled to bring West’s interpretation of the Dickens story to theaters on November 13 through Paramount, in association with Domain Entertainment.
