Dave Boyle to Direct Reimagining of Japanese Horror Film Pulse

Dave Boyle is set to direct a reimagining of Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s 2001 Japanese horror film Pulse, according to reporting cited by Dread Central from Deadline. Screen Gems and Spyglass are developing the project. Luke Piotrowski, who wrote The Night House, authored the screenplay, and Boyle will take a pass at the script. Parker Finn and Jonathan Fass are attached to produce for Bad Feeling. Plot details for the new version are being kept under wraps. The project is expected to take place in the modern era and center on a new group of characters, distinguishing it from the story of Kurosawa’s original film. Released in 2001, Pulse follows people who begin to suspect that the dead are attempting to enter the world of the living through the internet. The film became a prominent title in Japanese horror and later received a Hollywood remake released in 2006. The new project marks another feature for Boyle, whose upcoming ghost story Never After Dark is scheduled to reach theaters on September 25 through Magnolia Pictures. According to Dread Central, Never After Dark won the Midnighter Audience Award at its premiere during this year’s SXSW Film Festival. The outlet also reported that Stephen King described the film as “amazing.”
