BURNING, a psychological horror film directed by Radik Ashimov, is set to premiere exclusively on IndiePix Unlimited on September 4, according to Horror Society. The 2025 feature runs 101 minutes and is presented in Kyrgyz with English subtitles.
Set in a Kyrgyz village, the film begins after a young family buries its firstborn son. In the aftermath, the mother moves from house to house seeking help before disappearing near the edge of the forest. The father’s mother then arrives under unexplained circumstances. Soon afterward, the family home is destroyed by fire, leaving the surrounding community to debate what occurred inside.
BURNING centers on three witnesses who exchange their recollections of the night at a village shop. Their accounts do not align, and each version assigns responsibility to a different member of the family. As the story develops, the film treats the competing testimonies as an increasingly unstable mix of grief, rumor and folklore. Some villagers attribute the fire to a curse, while others suggest that grief itself became destructive.
The film’s storytelling draws on the fractured-truth tradition associated with Rashomon, using shifting perspectives rather than a single agreed-upon account. Horror Society describes BURNING as a work focused on psychological dread instead of jump scares, with the mystery changing as each witness adds another interpretation.
Aizada Amangeldy and Dastan Madalbekov wrote the screenplay. The cast includes Aisant Edigeeva, Omurbek Izrailov, Kalicha Seydalieva, Zhanilai Isakova, Askar Kachkynbaev, Ruslan Orozakunov and Meerim Kasabolotova. Sultan Pirzhan co-produced the film, while Kerim Kasymaliev handled cinematography.
BURNING is categorized as Horror/World Cinema and will be available through IndiePix Unlimited beginning September 4.
