Pinocchio: Unstrung is now available on DVD and digital in the United Kingdom through Altitude UK Home Entertainment. The film was released on September 7 across Apple, Sky Store, Amazon UK, Rakuten and Virgin, as well as on DVD. Directed and written by Rhys Frake-Waterfield, the 82-minute feature offers a dark reimagining of Carlo Collodi’s The Adventures of Pinocchio. According to Horror Society, the story follows Geppetto, played by Richard Brake, as he introduces his grandson James to a magical doll named Pinocchio. James brings the doll into the wider world, unaware of its naïve nature, while the sinister Cricket—played by Robert Englund—guides Pinocchio on a crusade against everything considered bad. The cast also includes Cameron Bell in his feature debut. Brake and Englund lead the film in the roles of Geppetto and Cricket, respectively. Pinocchio: Unstrung is the latest entry associated with the Twisted Childhood Universe, a series that also includes Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, its sequel, Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare and Bambi: The Reckoning. Frake-Waterfield previously directed Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, while Scott Chambers serves as producer after working on Bambi: The Reckoning and Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare. The film held its UK premiere in June at the Raindance Film Festival, where it received nominations in four categories. Those included Best UK Feature and Best Performance in a UK Feature for Brake. During its theatrical run, Bloody Disgusting described the film as “a disturbing reimagining.” The digital and DVD release brings the film’s dark take on the classic puppet story to UK home audiences.
