Shudder has released the first trailer for Bloody Tennis ahead of the sports horror film’s September 25 premiere on the streaming service. The film was acquired by Shudder shortly before the trailer’s release, according to FANGORIA.
Written and directed by Nikias Chryssos, Bloody Tennis follows Sophie after she is admitted to an elite tennis academy hidden in southern Europe. The school’s intense competition is accompanied by increasingly sinister developments, turning what begins as a test of athletic ambition into a struggle involving Sophie’s friendships, romantic connections and sense of empathy.
The film’s described elements include hallucinations, grotesque humor, blood-sucking leeches and the pressures of brutal competition. Sophie must ultimately weigh her dream of becoming a top player against the personal connections that could be threatened by the academy’s environment.
Sandra Guldberg Kampp leads a cast that includes Elina Löwensohn, Tracy Gotoas, Helena Zengel, Zlatko Burić, Lily Taïeb, Juliana Vieira Guerra, Lucie Zhang and Vincent Romeo. Bloody Tennis has a reported runtime of 94 minutes and is in English.
The film is set to have its world premiere at the 2026 Locarno Film Festival, followed by a North American premiere at Fantastic Fest 2026. Its Shudder debut is scheduled for September 25.
Jim Williams composed the score. The film is produced by Jonas Katzenstein and Maximilian Leo in co-production with Port au Prince Film and Kultur Produktion. In comments shared when Shudder acquired the movie, Katzenstein said the production team was excited to bring the film to audiences and described its North American release through Shudder as the beginning of its journey in that territory.
