Unearthed Films Sets U.S. Blu-ray Release for Japan’s Bakemono

Unearthed Films is set to release Japan’s Bakemono on Blu-ray in the United States for the first time on September 22, according to Horror Society. The title will receive a wide release through the distributor. Directed and written by Doug Roos, Bakemono follows a series of visitors who arrive at the same inexpensive Tokyo apartment at different times. Unaware of the gruesome creature waiting inside, the guests become connected through the apartment and the monster at its center. The film uses practical effects, and the Blu-ray’s bonus material includes a featurette titled “Making The Practical FX: Bringing A Gruesome Monster To Life.” Additional extras cover the film’s themes and production, including “The Dark Side Of Tokyo: The Meaning Behind The Film” and “Principal Photography.” The release also includes “Bakemono Unleashed: Reactions And Surprises” and a festival question-and-answer session conducted in German. The disc will present the 2023 film with stereo audio and a 99-minute running time. The listed language is English, and the release will contain one Region 0 disc. The cast includes Takashi Irie as Mitsuo, Yukina Takase as Tomoko, Yurika Natsume as Reina, Miki Nomura as Risa, and Laila Chiba as Nozomi.
