Horror Movie News Report

A first look has arrived for Effigy, an Australian supernatural horror film directed by Myles McEwen and Ripley Stevens. Dread Central reports that the preview was released by Variety as the movie moves toward its festival run. Set in England in 1989, Effigy centers on the Marsh family after they unearth a mysterious effigy doll. The discovery triggers a violent haunting, while an entity connected to the disturbance becomes increasingly focused on the family’s daughter. Two paranormal investigators subsequently begin examining the case, which develops into a traumatic investigation. Chris Gun, Lauren Koopowitz, David Daradan and Saya Kraetzer lead the cast. Black Mandala Films produced the film, with Michael Kraetzer and Nicolás Onetti serving as executive producers. McEwen said the filmmakers approached Effigy differently from their previous features by using a more conventional storytelling structure. He also described the film as an exploration of depression and said the production was designed to evoke the look and feel of cinema from 1989. The filmmakers have not announced a specific festival or release date. According to the report, Effigy has just completed production and will soon begin its festival run.
