TOHO and GKIDS have released a new trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero, Takashi Yamazaki’s sequel to Godzilla Minus One. The film follows Japan in 1949, two years after the previous movie, as the country attempts to rebuild and restore ordinary life following the devastation of war and Godzilla’s attack.
That recovery is interrupted by another threat. The trailer shows a new effort to exterminate Godzilla, but the operation appears unable to contain the monster. The footage also introduces imagery that has prompted speculation about another kaiju, including gold-colored lightning and a roar that is not identified as Godzilla’s. New additions include Masami Nagasawa as Makoto Aoyama, a weather forecaster assigned to the Disaster Response Bureau; Jun Kunimura as Dr. Ogata; Ko Maehara as Akira Hagiwara; and Min Tanaka as Murakami.
Yamazaki wrote and directed the movie and is again overseeing its visual effects. The production was filmed entirely in Japan and is being promoted as the first Japanese production filmed for IMAX. The trailer was released under an IMAX 1.43:1 presentation, while the film’s reported runtime is 135 minutes.
Godzilla Minus Zero will have its world premiere as a Spotlight Gala selection at the 64th New York Film Festival on September 26. It opens in Japan on November 3, 2026, known as Godzilla Day, and begins its North American theatrical release on November 6. GKIDS is handling the wide North American release.
